The Hayes ledgers were accessioned by Rhodes College, a liberal arts school in the heart of Memphis. They became part of the Crossroads to Freedom project, a digital archive documenting civil rights history in Memphis.

Student workers digitized the ledgers and transcribed them into digital spreadsheets in order to make them searchable in an online database. These transcriptions became the basis for the geospatial analysis of this project.

Mapping Memphis began as a Masters capstone project at The University of Texas at Austin.
